SALC Amicus: Women and Law in Southern Africa-Malawi v Attorney-General
26th March 2000, 12:00 pm

SALC submitted an amicus brief to the Constitutional Court of Malawi in WLSA-Malawi v Attorney-General, a case challenging the common law rule that married women at time of divorce are not entitled to any property acquired during marriage unless they can show they provided a monetary contribution to the property.

The amicus highlights the importance of the case before the court for Malawi's efforts to address HIV by providing a detailed outline to the link between strong women's property rights and lowering the negative impact of HIV on women.
