SALC’s observer status enhances engagement with the African Commission and its special mechanisms and enables it to file cases before the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

In terms of article 5(3) of the African Court Protocol only NGOs with observer status have access to the African Court. SALC is now able to participate fully in the public session of the African Commission, by submitting statements on pressing human rights issues in the SADC region.
