MBABANE – A seditious document on the sacred Incwala ceremony is said to have been found by police in Sipho Jele’s room at Ncabaneni.
Jele is the political activist who died in custody at the Sidwashini Correctional Services on May 4 prompting the institution of an inquest into his death which continued yesterday.
The Incwala document is one of many documents the police presented yesterday before the Nondumiso Simelane-led inquest as evidence.
The Incwala document, which was handed over by detective Constable Thulani Mtsetfwa, was marked exhibit TT by Simelane.
The document’s contents, as per prosecutor Phila Dlamini’s application, were not read out during the inquest due to their seditious nature.
Although the document was not read, attorneys Leo Gama, Sabelo Bhembe and Dlamini were seen going through it.
Incwala is an annual traditional national ceremony where their Majesties join thousands of warriors and female regiment to mark the end of the year and the beginning of a new one.
Besides the Incwala document, the police also presented material on the banned entity PUDEMO which they found in Jele’s room and those too could not be read out.
"Although I have not seen them (documents) they cannot be read as they border on sedition but my learned friends can go over them. Same applies to those set of (Incwala) documents," Dlamini submitted.
Other material taken by the police from Jele’s house include his travel document, ID card, PUDEMO membership card, a Gabriel Manana inscribed T-shirt as well as posters of dead suspected bombers ‘MJ’ Dlamini and Jack Govender.
